Welcome to the 14th edition of the UK’s leading global change film festival!
Our 2021 programme offers a much-needed opportunity to pause and reflect – and to question just how we’ve arrived at the topsy-turvy reality we call our own. To truly build back better, we need to both engage with and dream up different realities. We hope the audience conversations we nurture can inspire our way into a new story: one that centres care, community, equity, accountability and sustainability. How to access the online Festival

- The films will be available to watch from 9am on Wed 22 Sep to midnight on Sun 26 Sep.
- Most films also have bonus content to enjoy, including introductions from filmmakers/protagonists, short films, and pre-recorded Q&As.
- All films are available to 'rent' on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale (full price is £10, and in the written description on each film's page there are 'promo codes' to use at checkout that enable you to access the films for £8, £6, £4, £2, and £0)

- To rent a film, you will need to create an account with INDY on Demand

Opening and closing films
As Scotland gears up to host the UN climate change conference (COP26) in November, we are excited to reveal our opening and closing films. While vastly different in tone and focus, they both scrutinise the intersections of capitalism, industry and climate, helping us reflect on the climate crisis and understand not only how we got here but, just as importantly, how we – as local and global citizens – can build a better future.We look forward to sharing our full programme with you on 19 August and can't wait to welcome you in person and online in the autumn!
Opening film
Living Proof - Emily Munro, Scotland, 2021
Was climate change inevitable? Can we break free from a boom-and-bust mentality? Are we able to adapt to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for generations to come? Living Proof dives into Scotland’s film archive to explore the country’s complex relationship to the global climate crisis through film and music. The film will open our festival in Inverness (Eden Court) on 29 October. While the rest of our September festival line-up will be available online, Living Proof will be exclusively screened in venues – so make sure to grab your ticket when they go on sale on 19 August!
Closing film
The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel

Are there any limits to corporate power? From the climate crisis to racial injustice, surging inequality and the rise of the far-right, The New Corporation contrasts the grim realities of companies’ desperation to achieve profit at any cost with the inspiring individuals and movements fighting for a more sustainable future. The film will be available online from 22-26 September, and will close our in-person festival in Inverness on 31 October.

Shake up the System: How do we achieve meaningful change in society for a fair climate future
Together for a Fair Climate Future Online Conference

Shake up the System will be a virtual conference, exploring how behavioural, societal, and cultural changes can link to achieve meaningful systems change in the UK to address the climate crisis and develop a fairer society. The conference will bring together learning and experience from across sectors – identifying common barriers and enablers to help all actors move forward in their work.
Academics, activists, artists, communicators, community groups, companies, policy makers, regulators and others will share their insights and experiences of how change happens at these different levels, how social movements develop, and their ideas for the systems changes needed for a fair climate future. The conference will highlight major areas of focus for the UK in the lead up to the UN International Climate Conference COP26 in November 2021.
The virtual conference will take an interactive format and participants will be encouraged to share ideas and examples from their own work and collaborate with other participants from across sectors to problem solve and work together to identify actions for enabling change.
The conference will take place over the course of two afternoons (14:00 – 17:00 BST) on 21 – 22 September 2021. Participants are strongly encouraged to join for both sessions, as presentations, workshops, and activities will build on each other, culminating in learnings, actions, and commitments for the future at the end of day two.

This conference is part of Sustainability First's Together for a Fair Climate Future project, focusing on how action for the climate crisis and social justice can come together and how to recover from the pandemic in a way that’s fair and positive for the environment. This work is being funded by the National Grid, as a Principal Partner for COP26.

Event organised by the Centre for Advanced Technology
Leading climate scientist Professor Kevin Anderson will lay bare the scope, scale and urgency of the climate crisis, and offer thoughts on what needs to happen at and beyond COP26 to create profound change. CAT’s Zero Carbon Britain Hub team will host the webinar and deliver an overview of their change making work.
This webinar is taking place as part of Great Big Green Week, a nationwide week of events from 18 to 26 September 2021 celebrating climate action. Great Big Green Week is organised by The Climate Coalition, of which CAT is a member.
